Task bar

Hi
I am using XP Pro and find that quite often icons are missing from the task bar eg AVG,Volume speaker,and Mailwasher has just started doing it.
The task bar properties are set not to hide inactive programs.
Xp is up to date.
I tried running sfc /scannow but it didn`t find anything.
