I had a similar issue with my PC not seeing ipods and USB sticks, effectively another sort of e-drive. If you right click "start" and go to "explore", does the e-drive show up somewhere on the tree? In my case it did, and I could get to it by clicking there. At some later time the ipod and/or USBs would reappear in "my computer", but not always.
It may not work for you but would be worth looking.
