Webuser Forums: Custom Windows Updates??

Hiya,

Today I updated my desktop using Windows Update but the custom one. First there was a hardware update for my soundcard which read :

Optional Hardware Download - C-Media AC97 Audio Device

So I thought I had better do that, so I installed it.

Next I was looking through the custom ones and thought which ones do I really need? are they all worth downloading? Anyway, I took it upon myself to write down each of the updates before I installed them, here they are -

Software Optional -

Remote Desktop Connection For XP - KB925876
Windows Right Management Services Client With SP2 - KB917275
Network Diagnostic Tool - KB914440
Update For XP - KB920342

So, after installing each update I realised that the sound wasnt working!! The pc didnt recognise an audio device?? So upon realising it must have been the hardware update for my Soundcard I did a system restore to a few days ago and hey presto the sound started working again!!!!

My network is having problems now aswell, I did the same updates on my notebook (apart from the sound) a few days ago and within that period my pc's are no longer able to see eachother through my network! Was this just a co-incidence that the updates could cause my network to do this? Both pc's can connect to the router just not to eachother! Anything to do with the Network diagnostic tool update???

I have posted about my network in the network forums for help so please dont confuse this as the same issue. I am posting here for advice on the custom windows updates. Should I install everything? I am not advanced enough with pc's to decide for myself whether I need update KB925876 as to be honest I know nothing about remote desktop connections lol

I am just confused as downloading one of these updates has caused my sound to stop working so they cant always be a good thing to do!

Any advice would be greatly received.

Have I Missed Anything LOL
