Web page closes extremely slowly from top to bottom...

Hi, occasionaly after a particularly long 'computing session' (usually online) I have noticed that my computer behaves strangely. For example, when I 'close' it, the last thing that is left up and running - probably a web page - will close extremely slowly from top to bottom e.g. may take seconds rather than split-seconds, and it is clearly visible to close from top to bottom, finally revealing the desktop behind. It is kinda spooky when you see it happen. Also once or twice exactly the same thing has happened to the 'Start menu'. [Windows XP Home, SP2]. Anybody know what's going on?
