No they didn't push a button, they gave the shop a validation code which once windows had been reloaded was enough to put everything right. I might add that I'd already phoned microsoft myself three times and spoken to three different people, two of whom were extremely unhelpful . When the shop rang for me they too had an awful battle on their hands until they insisted on speaking to a suprvisor, then it got worse..the supervisor tried to say the shop wasn't a recognised dealer in microsoft licenced goods. The owner of the shop was called and he got on the phone to sort that one out. He also showed me proof that he had bought the licences for a number of microsoft goods for resale, going so far as to show me the invoice. Through all this microsoft has come over as most inefficient and the operatives at the call centres badly lacking in knowledge and customer service skills.
Thankfully it hasn't cost me anything but I wouldn't mind betting there are people buying keys etc to validate copies that aren't even counterfeit.
