Bought new Dell XPS400 Dimension end of January 06.
Was pressured by salesman to buy Media Center Edition OS as the best OS. Had so many problems with this OS and fought with the Dell India techs over many weeks about the problems to the extent that a Dell tech was scheduled to my home with a new hard drive loaded with WinXP-Pro SP2 to replace the MCE OS I had. Many problems were eliminated but some still remain along with inability to use my copy/read drives.
My own software tech tells me he has another customer with similiar problems with a Dell and that he finally called Dell techs to see what he could learn. He says he was told that Dell builds PCs to run certain OSs and if OS is changed - problems result.
In my research on forums, am getting the feedback that Dell techs absolutely do not know what they are doing, that such info re hardware and OSs is completely off base.
Following are my PC specs:
Computer Specs: Dell XPS400 Dimension Video card – Nivdia GeForce 6800 XP-Pro Version 2002 SP2 Sound card – Sigma Tel High Defin. Pentium ® D CPU 2.80 GHz Audio CODEC 2.79 GHz, 2.00 GB of Ram
E Drive – Sony CD-RW CRX217 E IDE\CD Rom Sony
F Drive – HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GWA4164B
Two questions: What is your opinion of the Dell tech information re hardware and OSs?
What CD drives should I opt for if they need replacing?
Several sources have told me they believe two writer drives on same PC is problematic.
Many thanks for any more info I can gather to help me resolve my situation.
