hi burrwalnut an update auth/validation I have checked my recent auto updates from microsoft and found that the genuine validation tool has been installed presumably the reason for 2tone sirens was that val/tool was not installed so I assume that was what were causing my problem. now each time I log on there are no 2tones anymore. thanks again for your support. whizzer
