Make sure you are using the correct cable from your computer modem to the telephone socket , i have found that all recent modems use a cable with just two copper connectors on it , i have made the mistake in the past of trying to use a cable that has 4 copper connectors on it and allthough it actually fits in the slots it never detects a connection.
