In outlook Express, click Tools Click Accounts
Highlight your gmail account
Click Properties, Click Servers
Ensure that My server requires Authentication is checked

Then click the Advanced Tab

Ensure that the two This server requires a secure connection SSL are checked and that SMTP is set to 465 and Pop to 995
