hp ipaq 3715 connecting to msn messenger via irda

hi i am in desperate need of help, iv just bought a ipaq 3715 mainly so i can check my emails and use msn messenger on the move, but i cant make head nor tail of the manual to find out how to do this,
i have a samsung e710 on vodafone which has infa red but no blootooth, im not bothered about using internet explorer to browse the web that much on it, but i would like to be able to use the messenger and email services as this is the reason i bought it.
please can anyone give me instructions of what i need to do as im stummped.
