"I have been watching with interest the letters in WU regarding the service upgrades that NTL have been offering. I have been wary of receiving my "free upgrade" from my NTL 750K subscripton to the 1MB service after reading in Issue 104 News that it would carry a 3GB monthly usage limited (while 2Mb and 3Mb would both "likely" carry a 1GB monthly service cap). So when I phoned NTL about a totally unrelated service issue I found to my surprise that there was a 1GB daily limit on 2Mb and 3Mb lines. I jumped at the chance to sign up. Now my story would have ended there, had I not looked at the terms and conditions of the service (all very fair) this morning and noticed that new NTL customers receive their chosen broadband connection free for the first month on subscription (along with the normal free connection, free modem and so forth). Slightly miffed by this I called the NTL helpline and asked if there were any loyalty "rewards" for existing customers, because the way it looked to me it would be better to have cancelled my subscription and re-subscribe in order to save myself the £25 monthly fee. I think this is a definite case of "if you don't ask you don't get", as they immediately agreed to refund me this month's broadband fee as a goodwill gesture. So, any existing NTL customers who have upgraded their service during the last month should ring NTL's free phone (0800 052 2000) and see if they will do the same for you. £25 in your pocket is better than £25 in NTL's! I'm off to go and buy a wireless connection kit using the £25 saving now."
Phew, good job I'm a secretary . Have you thought about getting a subscription to WU? Much easier than traipsing around the shops (and no, I don't work for WU!!!!).
