I second that. Perhaps you can help us out, Iain (or anyone)?
I too believed that it was possible to send at least a plain text file if nothing else, using a direct 'phone link between two "modem equipped" computers almost as if it were part of a LAN, thus bypassing all that internet stuff.
I think I'm right in saying that it was certainly possible in the days of the old "8 bits", not such a distant memory for me, having stuck with my old Commodore 64 until the disc drive finally packed up only about 4 or 5 years ago.
Wish I could get another drive. There's wanted files "trapped" on the old 5¼ inch floppies, and more modern 5¼ inch drives can't read the 35 or 37 track Commodore format (I'm forgetting which it is now. Must be getting old). I suppose I'll have to either give up on them or go to e-bay eventually.
