Problem burning my music

Hi guys, I really hope somedody can help me. I'm having trouble burning my files to my cd's. I've bought two different kinds of cds, both of which have worked in the past. The burning process will strat for about two seconds then stops. a little window comes up telling me that I need to slow my speed down or check my disc for damage. I've slowed the speed down still nothing. I've tride burning my files through windows media, real player, and record now. Nothing has worked. I've even updadted my record now software. Any help would be much appreciated.
