Wanadoo wireless Broadband

Hi folks query from a technophobe - purchased Linksys Router and two PCI adaptors only to find out that Wanadoo modem is incompatible with everything except guess what, yep Wanadoo Wireless. Modem is a Thompson with USB connection to PC and does not have a Cat5 Ethernet connection, has something unique to them. Problem is I don't want Wanadoo's stuff I want to use the Linksys stuff. Wanadoo won't supply a compatible modem and are holding me to a 12 month contract.
Are they breaking competition rules? Can I fit my own modem and keep Wanadoo as an ISP? Is there another way?
Any guidance would be very much appreciated.
Hugh
