56Kbps on dial-up is rarely achieved.
For on-line gaming I would really urge you to consider an uncapped broadband connection. Before you dismiss this suggestion. Consider how much time you spend on-line, look at the cost. ADSL broadband will also free up your telephone line for normal use.
I have seen advertisements from well known companies, such as AOL, offering unlimited uncapped access at 512Kbps for less than 20 pounds per month.
On-line gaming can be very addictive at 512Kbps, be warned, you may wish to control the use. The ISP market is shifting, do not tie yourself into a long minimum contract. I am trying to leave Wanadoo, my advice is: Do not join Wanadoo, they have a minimum contract of one year for a "dreadful"[quote] service.
