windows vista updates

hi,
i have still got problems with the latest windows updates,it appears to download them ok but then after restarting to install it says that they cannot be configured and it reverts back to settings before.i have tried your suggestion also with no luck and was wondering if u got any further advice.
i have followed all advice given by chippendales without any luck and at pressent i have stopped computer searching for updates.what i was wondering would anybody know if its worth my while reformatting computer and starting again as i would feel happier with the updates working,the only next problem i ent to sure on reformatting windows vista

my mate had the same problem updates not installing, downloaded ok but wouldn't install, fixed the problem by downloading and installing the optional update that were available.
