Default Device manager

Hi,
My computer recently installed service pack 3, (Windows XP), and then I noticed that when I look in My Network Places there is nothing displayed. I checked the device manager and nothing is displayed in there either.
Can anyone please help?

Rob.

My Network Places is the location where any networked computers and their shared folders/printers will be shown.

This has nothing to do with Device Manager which should list any "network adapters" installed in the PC. If these are not installed properly, they might be shown as an "unknown device" with a yellow question mark or exclamation mark alongside.

The Network Connections folder will also list the adapters installed in the PC as "Local Area Connections" and "Wireless Network Connections".

Mike,

Both the device manager and network connections folder are empty.

If there are definitely no entries for network adapters in Device Manager, and also no unrecognised devices, then it appears that one of the SP3 updates has messed things up.

You could try running the Add New Hardware wizard in Control Panel, but Windows should already have found the hardware when you first rebooted after they disappeared. Otherwise, I suspect you're going to have to remove the updates, or SP3, which caused the problem.
