How do I switch off the Vista 'automatic update notification' ?
I have a Toshiba laptop; Satellite Pro A100 with Vista home basic. Recently I found that the sound wouldn't work after the big update (470Mb) to SP2 which happened automatically...
No matter what I tried to do - every driver file update for the realtek high definition sound device - all attempts at reinstalling the drivers stopped and went into the 'hang' status before completing. I figure this was because there is something in the Vista SP2 update that conflicts with the sound driver - so the latter is locked down and Vista wins...
So today I have managed to roll it back to the time prior to the SP2 update, and this has fixed the problem; the sound now works again. However to prevent it from just doing the same thing again, I have stopped automatic updates and I know it will now remain in this condition; I am quite happy without any more updates.
Unfortunately, in this condition, with auto update switched off... we are getting the little window coming up each time we boot up that says:
"Check your automatic update settings, automatic updating is turned off, click this notification to fix the problem"
Can anyone tell me how I can switch off this annoying window from popping up each time we boot up?
Many thanks
TJ.
