Default How do I switch off the Vista 'automatic update notification' ?

I have a Toshiba laptop; Satellite Pro A100 with Vista home basic. Recently I found that the sound wouldn't work after the big update (470Mb) to SP2 which happened automatically...
No matter what I tried to do - every driver file update for the realtek high definition sound device - all attempts at reinstalling the drivers stopped and went into the 'hang' status before completing. I figure this was because there is something in the Vista SP2 update that conflicts with the sound driver - so the latter is locked down and Vista wins...
So today I have managed to roll it back to the time prior to the SP2 update, and this has fixed the problem; the sound now works again. However to prevent it from just doing the same thing again, I have stopped automatic updates and I know it will now remain in this condition; I am quite happy without any more updates.
Unfortunately, in this condition, with auto update switched off... we are getting the little window coming up each time we boot up that says:

"Check your automatic update settings, automatic updating is turned off, click this notification to fix the problem"

Can anyone tell me how I can switch off this annoying window from popping up each time we boot up?

Many thanks

TJ.

It’s on the same window where you turned off Automatic Updating, i.e. right-click the red shield (or Control Panel > Classic View > Security Center) and click 'Change the way Security Center......' then choose 'Don't notify me and don't........'.

The red shield applies to the security settings for the Firewall, Updates, AV, UAC and IE.
