Default number lock will not stay on

hi
i have an acer aspire 5536 laptop. it has a numeric keypad. it works fine but every time i boot up i have to activate the number lock feature and i understand it should remain on if the machine was closed down with it on.
i understand it can be set to switch on by accessing the bios at start up but i cannot see where this feature might be in there.
could anyone please tell me how i can achieve this.
many thanks.

If you don't have a motherboard manual, I suggest you download one for future reference.

Meanwhile, in the BIOS look for a section named Advanced (or similar wording). It will be a Num Lock On/Off toggle that you need to change.

What I said above still stands!

Have you ‘Googled’ for the manual? In the BIOS, look through all the sections, I was trying to shorten your search by suggesting similar wording to Advanced.

Also, some laptops have a key combination that activates specific operations, e.g. Fn + F(x). Get the technical manual (or similar wording) and it will tell you everything.

Try this method:

In the Start Menu type regedit and press Enter.
Click on the Continue button in the UAC prompt.
In regedit, go to:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard

In the right pane, right click on InitialKeyboardIndicators and click Modify.

If the number 0 is used, all indicators are off.
If number 2 is used, Num Lock is on.

Always make a backup of your registry settings before changing anything.
