wireless capable or not

I'm really confused my friends toshiba satellite seems to have wireless capabilities but cant get it to work, it lists a realtek rtl8187b in device manager and says it working properly any suggestions?

Can you be more specific about the problem?

Most Laptops with built-in wireless networking have a switch to toggle the "wireless" On/Off; has it been switched On?

If it is 'On' does it actually find any Available Networks to connect to?

i have tryed pressing function key with f8(wireless button) but it doesn't turn it on! i have tried all sorts and don't understand as it lists wireless in device manager and has software pre installed but i seem unable to get it to work yet my laptop finds the router and conncts with no problem

I have a Toshiba laptop. If you look at the front left hand side, (tip the base away from you), there is a physical 'switch' to push across, & it should light up. Mine is below the 'EQUIUM' word.
Everything is really hard to see, as it is all black. Good luck!
