Default If you were me.....................................

Currently I am enjoying the benefit of talktalks "free broadband forever" as per the original publicity campaign and pay £9.95 (I think) for phoncalls/broadband etc and pay the line rental to TT.

But, it is now highly likely we will be moving to the coast next month where the house is wired for virgin broadband and satellite tv.

I would like to continue with TT and have liased with them. It seems it could take 2 weeks before the landline is live and a further 3 before an internet connection can be live. I have a mobile so that shouldn't be a problem. TT have given me a regional phone number to keep in touch with them so in a perfect world there should be no problem. BUT, we don't live in a perfect world and I dread what might/not happen.

I think I commenced a new 18 month contract not long ago, which would keep me tied to them. (I will double check this), if I can, would it be easier to leave TT and move to virgin given that they are already in place?.if the answere is yes, what would I expect to pay?, I don't really need extra TV channels, freeviw is enough.

I would say the major difference between TT and Virgin's Broadband is the fact that Virgin will give you a 10mb connection straight away whereas TT will give something between 1 and 5mb (dependent on your distance from the exchange) some 6 weeks after you move in.

If speed isn't an issue, and you don't mind waiting then TT will be a lot cheaper than Virgin (assuming you keep your current deal).

Have a look at this for Virgins package deals. If you only want BB and telephone then it looks like £14 a month initially which goes up to £25 after 3 moths.

Thank you. Yes it is only BB and the telephone I need and in fact speed as provided by TT is perfectly adequate. It may be that I use the net less as we will be in Bournemouth and hopefully enjoying all that it has to offer. To be honest, I'd even thought that if all else failed, I'd simply accept a phoneline deal and dongle.

The speed you get in Bournemouth won't be the same as what you currently get - could be less, could be more. If you can the telephone number of your new residence (or someone living close by) you might be able to get a rough idea of the likely speed of your new connection.

We're on the South Coast - very nice place to live but some right maniac older drivers.

Anyway, did a BT check the other day and we would get 3.8mps at tops on our line. However we are with Virgin and we get 10mps almost ALL the time and the service standard (as in drop outs) is very good - possible 1 or 2 at most in the last twelve months and generally sorted out within a short while.

The thing to bear in mind is you can have cable AND telephone broadband - not saying that you would want to pay for both, but it is quite liberating to be able to switch to cable without worrying 'Will my phone line broadband be continuous?' etc etc.

Not sure if that helps, but welcome to the South!
