Re: Can't reinstall wireless router
A Router isn't installed in a computer either as hardware or as software - it is a "network device" to which computers connect either by ethernet cable or "wirelessly" using TCP/IP Protocol.
After replacing the damaged USB Dongle, it should not have been necessary to make any changes to the Router. It should only have been necessary to "Connect" to it with the new Wireless Network Adapter (dongle).
Only if "MAC address filtering" had been enabled would you need to make changes in the Router's settings, in which case the new dongle's MAC address would need to be entered. As you've said you're "not very techy", it is extremely unlikely that this would be in use.
Best option is perhaps to perform a "hard reset" of the router back to factory default settings, connect to it with an ethernet cable, not "wirelessly", and then set it up again from scratch.
