Default Internet connection problems.

Whenever I start my laptop from Sleep mode, I lose my internet connection.
I have to disconnect, then reconnect to get back online.
If I shut down completely, then restart, everything is ok, so it's just Sleep mode that causes this problem. Even if I put it in Sleep mode for just a few seconds, I lose my connection. Any ideas why this is happening and how to prevent it?
Thanks.
Vista Home premium, Thomson wireless router.

The Laptop is probably losing its IP address and it isn't being renewed when brought out of 'sleep' mode. You could try using fixed IP addressing with your Wireless Network Connection, provided you don't also need to connect "wirelessly" to other networks, as these would require automatic IP addressing.

Another option I found is that the network adapter in the device manager settings may be set to power down to save energy mode, switching this off should fix it.

Windows button+pause/break
device manager
network adapters
right click it and select properties
power management tab
uncheck "allow the computer to swtich off this device...."

This may help, especially under Vista, I have seen this problem on 3 different computers, 1 desktop and 2 laptops and this has fixed it in all 3 occasions.

Yay, thanks for that tip HunterB.
I did what you suggested and it looks as though it's solved the problem.
After following your instructions, I put my laptop to sleep for a while, when I woke it up I still had my internet connection, I've done it a couple of times since, and it's worked every time.
Great, thanks again.
