Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
I was a little indignant at first when Norton installed those extras into Firefox. I've come to like and rely on them now.
I think Mozilla are working on some of the bugs reported in version 3.5 and it won't be long before 3.5.* arrives.

OK, thanks.
I assume you mean 'Norton IPS 1.0' and 'Norton Toolbar 3.5' when you refer to extensions in NIS 2009 not working with Firefox 3.5?.
[/ QUOTE ]
is that whats causing the problem? i have NIS 2009

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
I doubt if NIS 2009 would be causing your slow start up of Firefox. As I said before, I've found Firefox 3.5 faster than previous versions and I run NIS 2009 too.

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
I was a bit surprised to see those Add-ons in Firefox too, but it'll be nice to have them working again, hopefully tomorrow.

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
Just checked with Norton and the fix has arrived a day early (or most of it has). See here.
Edit: Just upgraded to Firefox 3.5. The Norton toolbar only is working. IPS still remains to be updated.

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
I got the fix which seems to be working OK. However, when I opened Firefox after restarting, I found that 7 or 8 of my Add-ons (extensions, not themes) had been disabled as being incompatible with Firefox 3.5. This was nonsense as they worked fine before the Norton fix, so I used MR Tech to sort them out and they all appear to be working now. Maybe I should have disabled the Toolbar instead. Actually, MR Tech seems to work on Norton IPS 1.0, for which no fix is available yet.
It'll be interesting to see what happens after a reboot!

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
Well Firefox 3.5, including the Add-ons which had been disabled, is working fine following a reboot, except for Norton IPS 1.0 which has gone back to being disabled. I'm not surprised about this, I think I was being somewhat over-optimistic in thinking that MR Tech would be able to make it compatible with Firefox 3.5!

Re: firefox not opening as quick as it used to
[ QUOTE ]
In NIS, IPS uses attack signatures (similar to virus signatures) to block attacks directed at known software vulnerabilities. This is explained in the Help file. If you are conscientious about keeping your software patched, you needn't worry about IPS.
[/ QUOTE ]
The above is a quote from the Norton forum which explains it well.
To learn about IPS, lookup Intrusion Prevention in Help.
