Re: A Little Mix-Up.
Some would call this blackmail, but personally I have to say the buyer is being quite reasonable. Under eBay rules you have defaulted on the deal.
The hard bit is telling your friend he has to give up a hat and pay for the postage for messing you and the buyer about. Please do not be daft enough to cover costs yourself.
You could report the buyer to eBay but in instances where we have made errors we make sure we do our best for the buyer. In a recent instance we sent two large letters at the local Post Office with our other Recorded Items. And the kind lady at the counter NEVER PUT ANY STAMPS ON THEM!
So I get one buyer screaming blue murder saying he had had to pay for the item and was taking me to PayPal, and another lady who emailed me to say she had not yet had her item (but had had a card to say she owed £1.47).
So I refunded the first one and sent the second buyer another item AND a freebie and told her to let the first one back.
An honest appraisal - I preferred the way the second buyer contacted me and almost told the first one to shove it for the way he had emailed me. But at the end of the day I (actually the Post Office) was at fault, so refunding in full was the best solution.
Bluntly for yourself, ignore the threat but send the hat and (if) once you get decent feedback block them from buying again. You might also tell him you will send the hat and will he agree to cancel mutally - you will at least get the eBay fee back.
And one final tip: NEVER SELL FOR FRIENDS!
