Hi can broadband be used without having to use a BT line? Is there an alternative?

1. Virgin's "Cable" broadband if it's available in your area.

2. "Mobile Broadband" using a USB dongle and the mobile phone networks. Performance varies considerably depending on traffic using the mobile network, which can be influenced by (a) where you're located and (b) the busy times of the day for mobile phone use.

I wondered the same thing as you about a year ago, I was going to change over to talk talk for my line rental as they were cheaper than BT I had a few conflicting replies from different people but most said it was ok to use another line rental other than bt and still get your broadband. Which, after changing over did and still does work! funnily enough I sent a email to my isp (virgin) asking this question and they replied by email AFTER I changed over saying no you can't! bearing in mind I just picked up the email using talk talk as my line rental, which I found quite funny.

[/ QUOTE ]Although you may have a "line rental" contract with Talk Talk, the phone lines remain those of BT and in that respect you cannot have an ADSL connection without using BT phone lines.
