Not knowing what you have visible, press your Alt + O keys on your keyboard. That's the letter O and not a zero.

Click Toolbars and select (tick) the ones you want to show.

This works under normal circumstances.

ok i tried that and nothing appeared. all i have where the file, edit, view, favorites should be is a blue line with an E on the left hand side whic represents explorer. i have tried right clicking on an empty space on the tool bar to see if anything appears and still nothing, also F11 and nothing i done a system restore and that never worked. i dont really want to reformat my laptop because i had trouble getting my wireless working again last time.

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed by any chance? . . . if so, uninstall it.

or

Try starting IE7 with no add-ons:

All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
This may reveal a dodgy Add-on if it restores 'normality'.

ok i uninstalled it again for the second time tonight and when i do as you suggested all i got was a blank white screen. i cannot download anything because i do not get a pop up to say install or save as. there must be some solution to this rather than do a complete reformat just for the sake of this problem. i appreciate your help. hopefully someone will read this and maybe come up with some other solutions too. unless you can think of anything else to try.

It would be helpful to know what you did to lose your Toolbars in the first place, it could help someone to find a solution for you.
Haven't you posted this in the XP forum too?

yes i have posted this in the xp forums because at first when i posted it i could not see my posting. it can be removed if you wish.

what i done in the first place was i went to view to change a setting i downloaded windows 8 for MSN live and it had put itself under my google search bar and i clicked on something in the view tab by mistake and the whole lot disappeared. even when i try and back space from a web page that will not work either. i done a search on google and found a lot of others asking the same question as i am. hence why i posted here because i know you people know your stuff and i hoped someone could help me.

fedup

Could you go over what exactly you have did regarding the Google Tool Bar. For instance was Internet Explorer OK when it was removed?

When you say you can't download anything because you don't get the options pop up, how can you actually see anything to download with a 'white screen' showing only?

Your download, was it in fact Windows live Messenger 8.5?

i uninstalled google and then a yahoo tool bar came up as well so i uninstalled that and then done what you said to open windows without any add ons and it came up as a blank white screen, i had saved the goodle exe file in my drive so i clicked on it and reinstalled it and then windows opened up as normal but still with the tool bar missing. and when i itried to down load firefox it would not let me see the download to accept it, something flashed up on the screen as if it were asking me to accept it but i could not see it. so i am still at a loss as to how to recify this problem.

Can you uninstall the Google ToolBar and not reinstall that exe file. It may be corrupt.

You can do it either by:

1. The down arrow next to the Toolbar's wrench wrench icon.
2. Select Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
3. Click the Uninstall the Google Toolbar button.
or
To uninstall from the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel

1. Click the Windows Start menu button.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
4. Select Google Toolbar for IE.
5. Click the Remove button.

Now start Internet Explorer 7 as you normally would. Does IE 7 appear OK?
