Default AVG Linkscanner Vs SiteAdvisor....SA wins hands down.

Hi all, after installing AVG 8.5, I found I now have both checking Google links. As there didn't seem to be a conflict, I've left it that way, and two heads certainly do seem to work better that one.

AVG has never flagged up a site that SA says is OK, but SA flags up loads that AVG gives the green light to.

For a good example, typing the word 'screensavers' into Google, AVG gives ALL of the top 10 results a Green Tick.

SiteAdvisor gives red warnings to 5 of these.....best offender with 10 red downloads, links to red sites the worst:

screensavers.com...Many red downloads...Users comment 'more likely to receive virus than screensaver.'

aaascreensavers.com.......Linked to red sites, 378 bad downloads...BREACHED BROWSER SECURITY.

According to AVG LinkScanner, these 2 & all the others are ticketyboo.

Do AVG actually check these links, or do they just give a green tick to everything & hope nobody notices??

IMO, AVG LinkScanner is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Mugsy.

EDIT....aaascreensavers.com....reading the comments left in SA, people have scanned it, & every download on this site (12535 of them) is a virus or spyware/malware.

A point to bear in mind is "When were the sites checked?". Often some time has elapsed since Siteadvisor actually checked a site and the site might have made the necessary improvements since then. And AVG might be the more recent !

It is often better to investigate, rather than simply accepting the recommendations at face value.

Also, please read the relevant thread started by 'ourstanley' on the next board

Cheers, reading OurStanleys thread, it appears AVG would stop the page opening if it is bad.

Regarding timespans, AVG says it scanned aaascreensavers.com about 5 minutes ago.

SA doen't actually give a date, but 3 of the user comments are from within the last fortnight.

OurStanleys thread also touches upon the fact, that you don't actually have to click on anything on these sites, for them to harm your PC.

So.....AVG LinkScanner says the site is safe, but theoretically, it should stop me opening it if it's as bad as SA says, but I'm not pressing on the link to test it!!!
