So Virgin, What Happens To Those ALREADY on 10MBs?

Interesting Virgin have now said they will up all the 2MBs customers to 10 at no extra cost, which is what they did with all the 4MBs customers a while ago.

So what is in it for the customers already on that speed AND paying the premium?

Only the quiet satisfaction of knowing that anyone with the old BT copper wires won't ever catch us up!! I got the 'free' upgrade from 4 to 10 last year and very grateful I was too. Good luck to the rest who will get 2 to 10 for free in the future.

The answer to your question is: tough luck! It's like buying a garment on the high street at full whack and then seeing it substantially reduced in a sale. But perhaps if you ring Virgin to complain and threaten to leave (if you are out of contract) they just might listen and offer you a better deal. It's happened with other ISPs, e.g. AOHell.

Virgin recently emailed (supposedly from Richard B himself) to say that there was 'exciting news for 2MB users', so formally it hasn't actually been announced. They are offering an online storage service but again no real news on that yet.

I will be giving them a call myself, but as you said it was a 'free call' does that mean you have Broadband TV and phone? Just on broadband and TV at the mo.

VM also advertise their BB speeds as 10Mb, 20Mb and 50Mb now.

I haven't received Mr B's email, so am unsure of what this "exciting news" is, so you may want to wait until then.

Hello_There, sorry to pick your brains but were you on the L package and then increased to XL (20mbs)?

As the email says they did increase 10mbs customers to 20mbs in 2007, and 4mbs to 10 last year. It does create some crazy price issues. It was one of the reasons I left AOL, but I have to add that when I finally got in touch with a 'boss' they credited me THREE months and reduced the cost monthly.

I have to confess I like Virgin as there is none of the 'might get' speeds. You pay for 10 and you get it. Just niggled someone else is paying for 4mb (and soon those paying for 2mb) and getting the same.

Similar problem. I thought I was on the XL package at 4mb which got a free upgrade to 10mb so fully expected another freebie to 20. I've just checked my bill on line and seems I'm only on the L package. I wonder if they changed me to L following the last upgrade? Having said that I appear to be paying over the odds for L as it should be £22 and I'm paying £25 so I'll give them a bell anyway.
