Default Closing BT account (emigrating), can I keep my BT email address?

I'm emigrating next month and will therefore be closing my BT Internet account. I think I've seen somewhere that it is possible to keep my email address (for a fee, of course). Does anyone know if this is true - I can't find anything on the BT website about this.

Thanks,

THC.

Sometimes ISPs will let you retain an email address by converting a broadband account to a pay-as-you-go "dialup" account. This may then require that you do actually "dialup" with the account once every 60 or 90 days to keep the account active. However, with "dialup" becoming less popular, you would have to contact BT's support people to see if this is still an option.

I guess it was dial-up account you had with BT which is one of the reasons it's still there. If you've been using it successfully for the last 10 years I can't see any reason why shouldn't be able to continue to use it, although a lot will depend on the ISP you use after you've emigrated. To be safe I would get myself a Google Mail account and then use your BT account to notify everyone in the address book of your GMail address. At least that way if it falls over at your new home you can still contact everyone.

Hi
It ws BB i had with BT left them to go with Homecall got a beater deal,
I can only use the BT email address to send and recive (not that i use it much) and the home page i set up with BT.Yahoo is still active but thats all.
I think if you do not use the email address for a time it will be wiped off there system (around 60 to 90 days)

Hi

A bit late but it might help you, this was on the BT home page i use but it give you an option to keep your email address

This email is to let you know that, unless you connect using your dial-up BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go service in the next 60 days, we'll assume that you no longer need your account and email address and we'll stop your service.

If you don't do anything, there'll be no further warnings from us and your account will be closed in 60 days' time.

If you still wish to use your BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go account, all you need to do is dial up using the BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go icon on your desktop, within the next 60 days.

If you no longer have this icon, you can easily download it here

Please note: to keep your account you must use this dialler every 90 days - accessing your email via webmail on another connection won't be sufficient.
