Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
After years of using movie maker to edit my home movies, all of a sudden i'm not able to capture my videos. Although i haven't changed any of my hardware i'm getting the message " The video was not captured correctly.Verify that your video camera and capture device are configured properly "...The computer must recognise the camera because i'm able to rewind/fast forward/pause etc the tape with the onscreen buttons but no way can i get my Christmas footage on to hard disc and i cant find anyway to "configure" Please help !!

Re: Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
Try this if you are using firewire to connect to the PC
With the computer off, plug firewire into camcorder, set camcorder on to play. Then turn computer on and let it power up.
Open Windows Movie Maker to capture video
Go through the steps as you might normally. The video preview window will now display and record properly.
Once you have the preview displaying properly, you can stop the capture process and restart if necesary or open another app and capture there instead.

Re: Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
mmm, only thing is i have to start up my pc every time i want to capture a new clip and sometimes it doesn't work first time so it takes ages now to capture even a little footage! ...any idea how to fix it once and for all, Windows movie maker was already installed on my pc when i bought it and i've looked through the operating system discs i also received but i don't see moviemaker on any of them or i could have tried removing the program then reinstalling it .Either way there must be a fault somewhere that can be fixed. I tried getting in touch with Dell but they want an extortionate amount of money to help me, even though i bought the whole set up from them in the first place !

Re: Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
Video capture files take up a huge amount of disk space and require a significant amount of memory to run. How much space is there on your hard disk and how much RAM do you have?

Skylark, you clicked on the 'Notify' button for this post. May I ask why?

Re: Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
Hello greysts, Theres loads of space on my hard disc 39.6 GB infact and as far as i can seei have 512MB RAM, plus the fact i usually delete videos etc once i have made a hard copy so i don't think space is the issue , and the earlier advice that i got from putasolutions did work, on and off, but i cant help trying to find out why all of a sudden my pc is telling me that my capture device and video camera are not configured when i've been using them both for a few years now..weird eh
Oh and The Fat Controller.. i must have hit "notify" by mistake but i've since had a look through the rules etc and i can't find out exactly what it's for ..i'm new to this website so i'm kinda finding my feet the now.

Re: Anyone use Windows Movie Maker ?
I would say 512mb of RAM is precious little when you are editing movie files. I accept you've used the programme before with that amount of ram without difficulty but I would still think about getting some more. The other thing to ask is have you given your computer a clean up lately? Not, I hasten to add, with a feather duster but something like CCleaner from here.
You might also want to look at this to repair your version of WMM.
