Default BT Internet SMTP port numbers

Can anyone tell me what number I should be entering for a btinternet SMTP port number. I am having problems using 25 - even though I can telnet through this port to btinternet at mail.btinternet.com.

Also, is it a secure server, and does that make a difference to what port number I use? I am trying to configure OE6 with the btinternet account - I can receive all emails, but get error message 10053 when sending.

I have tried to ping, and get 3 replies. I am trying to sort out a neighbours dial up.

Thanks

Does this help? Ignore the broadband bit, the server setup is the same.

Thanks very much, that does look very informative. I shall plough my way through it - I'm pretty sure that it will help (I will reply when it does).

Thanks
