Default Slow running and loss of IE6 connection

hope you can help.
please see attached hjt log. my computer is running rather slow and now i've lost my internet connection. even the pc light on my virgin usb modem has stopped blinking and to complicate things further my original tiscali dial-up request keeps raising it's ugly, unwanted head.
i'v checked all wire connection and everything is fine.
i tried system restore but it wouldn't allow any changes.
thanks and regards
dave

Default Re: Slow running and loss of IE6 connection

can you delete your version of hijackthis and download the latest version from :-

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe

Double-click the file you've just downloaded and click on the unzip button to install the program. It will be installed to the C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\ folder by default.
then post a fresh HJT log.

Default Re: Slow running and loss of IE6 connection

are you sure it's not the modem that has packed in ?

have you tried rebooting the modem :- unplug it for 5 minutes then plug it in again.

have you tried shutting down the firewall to see if it connects ?

I don't see anything untoward in your log although you have a lot of processes running.

what are the specs of this computer- ram, processor etc

Default Re: Slow running and loss of IE6 connection

is that ram figure right----63 Mb ?

if it is, no wonder the comp is slow.
with the number of things you have running i'm surprised it's running at all.

download and run startup inspector
make sure you read the instructions.

It will tell you what is running at startup and what can be safely removed, and will allow you to remove the unnecessary entries to
speed up your boot up time and your general computing.
