Default Driver required to enable use of usb memory stick

Hi,

I have just completed a windows 98SE reinstall on a friends standby computer, and would like to find a suitable driver to enable one of the USB sockets to be used with a 1GB Memory Stick. It seems that most memory sticks are XP and above, therefore unsuitable for win98.

I have looked into 'device manager', and there are no drivers installed apart from the USB bus controller.

Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated.........RonG

USB sticks don't come with drivers. Windows itself (including Win98SE) carries all the information needed to install one. Have you been to the Microsoft site and downloaded all available updates?

Thank you, I will try that. I didn't think that updates would be available still for sch an old system.........RonG

I have only just joined this forum, so my reply is very late to you.

Sadly, each memory stick tends to be individual in design and requirements. Whereas in XP etc. any usb device is automatically recognised, when using these things under WIN98SE you generally need a driver for each and every item.

Often these drivers are readily available from the website of the USB device manufacturer.

Failing that, suggest you buy a new memory stick (not expensive these days) which is specifically described as WIN98SE compatible (but even then you might need to retrieve the driver via the net).

This is a problem I have faced and solved several times.
