Welcome to WebUser forums, can I ask you to go to the Microsoft Update site and check you have all the latest updates and patches please and that you are running XP SP2?

hi,thank you for your reply,i did as you asked, there was no critical updates to install but started to install other updates for hardware, and as i was downloading an update for the usb mouse(i'm on a laptop i won with webuser 3 weeks ago! )a blue screen came up saying somthing about less than equal to something, didn't quite read it all, when it restarted it said this system has recovered from a serious error, and when i started PSPX it started with no problems,so i don't know what happened there, thank you karen

What version of PSP X are you using?
Check by going into Help on the Menu Bar and About PSP

You may need addition updates.

This link . . . . >> Corel Paint Shop Pro X patches and updates may help with your problem.

You MUST install them if needed in order i.e. 10.01 first, then 10.02 & 10.03 in the respective language choice.

I see you have hopefully solved your problem but checking the version and updating won't do any harm.
