Default AOL Saved PFC--transfer to new computer?

Hello:

I have an old desktop that I need to "restore", but before I do, I'd like to save my "AOL Saved PFC" (saved emails) off of it and put on my new computer (genealogy research and correspondence). Can someone give me directions, please? On the old desktop, I see a file icon named "AOL Saved PFC", but the folders within don't mean anything to me and can't be opened and read.....but I'm assuming this is what I need to save to CD and then load on the new computer. Once there, though, how do I access it?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

The .pfc extension is AOHell's Personal Filing Cabinet extension. It's almost unreadable outside of AOHell. I tried a while ago to find a solution but only found one web site professing to have an application that would do the job but didn't risk downloading it.

Both computers are using AOL 9.0 Optimized.

Desktop is running with Win98, while Notebook is on WinXP.....if that makes a difference.

Thank you,

You'll find that the mail waiting in the Inbox is held on the Server
and you can access it on any terminal plus your address book is held there.
The Old Mail is a different matter which you want transferring
which is easy to do with AOL 9
First open your Mail box click on the Manage Email tab
In the left hand pane move down the "Tree" until you come to the label "Saved on my PC"
This is the area where all the saved mail /old mail ect. is stored
And if you go back to the "Saved on my PC" it is the only item that can be "Right clicked" for a menu OK?
And on that menu it says "Save as..." also "Open Saved Folder"
By default it will make a file called Email.pfc which will be small enough to email to yourself or copy to floppy (in my case it was 288k) and I am a heavy user of the AOL email service
Note if you save your Mail as "Saved on AOL" it is saved wholly on AOL's server and you can access it from anywhere. The other option saves the current 7 days mail plus any personal folder(s) which you have saved a mail for later reading(this stops the auto delete sequence) Remember that trick! I have an email stored here from well before last Xmas!(still works like new)
PS This trick works on ALL email Programs

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! That was exactly what I needed. I guess I just didn't look around hard enough in the email area for what to do. I've never needed to do this before, but the old computer is slowly deteriorating and needs to be "recovered", but just couldn't do it til I found a way to save my genealogy research emails. You've saved me! Thanks again!

Sounds like a candidate for £25 to me. There must be a lot of grateful people out there who have used this tip. It might be worth telling AOL how to do it as well!!

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

I think Mike should be the big boss of AOL.......from all his AOL advice, he seems to be the only person who knows and understands how to use it properly!!
