How to create your own Favicon, bookmark icon
      #89702 - Sat Jul 17 2004 09:31 AM

Hi.

Having read this post Icons in favourites folder I followed Ourstanley's tip on using Favorg to organise and store my normally temporary, internet favourite's icons. I then decided to see if I could create my very own Favicon for my web site. It was easy, follow these simple steps if want your visitors who bookmark pages on your site to have one of those neat little icons next to their link.

I created a simple jpg logo in Paintshop Pro which was big enough to work with easilly. Any image editing software will do and the image size didn't seem to matter as I then used this site FavIcon from Pics to convert the image into a favicon.ico. I didn't try it but I expect it can covert many file types so you could use any image or use an ico already on the site. It took a couple of itterations before I was happy. Then I inserted this html code in the head on my index page:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.markandlinda.co.uk/favicon.ico">

I copied the favicon.ico to my site and hey presto my very own favicon. Very easy. Now when someone bookmarks any page on my site they get a neat icon next to the link in their Favourite list. I can't show you what mine looks like as ico's don't display in posts here. You'll have to bookmark my site to see how the Favicon turned out

You can make your own icons directly with Icon Forge which I have used, download it here
