I have a three year old computer and I am a BT Broadband user (BT Homehub 404). My toolbar says that I am getting a healthy signal (54Mbps) but download speeds are comparable to dial up. BT say the problem is not with the line. What have I done wrong? It can take ten minutes to download a three minute clip from You Tube! BBC Iplayer is out of the question. Help

The 54Mbps is the speed of your "wireless" connection between PC and Router, unrelated to your internet speed.
What speed is indicated if you check your internet speed at http://www.speedtest.net ?

Try http://speedtester.bt.com/ It needs Javascript to run and let us know what it says
It should show you what the line is capable of what downstream and upstream speed you are getting, what speed you got in the test and what your IP profile is.
