IO_ERR_BAD_BLOCK
      #434003 - Thu Jul 09 2009 11:01 AM

Hi guys,

I have a problem and its starting to look bad by what I have read. I built my computer last Feb/March time with all new parts that I bought from Ebuyer, but bought a hard drive off eBay.

In the last few weeks the computer has been becoming slower at booting up in the morning and this morning it took 12 minutes to boot up. Last week I had a HighjackLog done and that was fine, bricat directed me to a page to look at how find problems. The first item was to check the Event Log of the system to see any errors and there are a few of the same error that occurs each morning which is:-

Error 09/07/2009 08:36:11 disk 7 NoneLog Name: System

I click on a link for further details, which took me to Microsoft website and they say that the hard disk needs replaced.

Am I right to think the hard disk will be my C. drive that has the problem and my other hard disk that I have in side where I save all my files?

Am I correct to think the hard disk will just get worse and 1 day it won't work or can I fix it?

Where do I stand on getting it replaced, as it was from eBay, brand new and I am worried if anyone will get my data from it?

I will be grateful of any help.

Cheers

What's the make of the disk?

If it is faulty you could wipe everything before returning it, although you'll probably have to go some time without use of the computer until it's exchanged.

Hi RichieP,

Thanks for your reply.

The hard drive is a Western Digital drive.

However, I did more poking around with the log and found the computer was having problems with the compack flash on the internal card reader, which I already knew the card reader was broken and have been waiting for a replacement coming and still am.

I removed the card reader from the computer, just to be on the safe side. When I switched on the computer, it was ready in minutes like normal. But the event log is still reporting the same error about the hard disk.

The seller who I bought the hard disk from is ignoring my emails and I am out of time to put a dispute in via PayPal, as its over their time period. So, not sure which route to go at the moment.

So, my question now is, is it alright to leave the hard disk as it is or should it be replaced as soon as possible?

Cheers

The error message you originally posted states it's the hard disk.

Download the relevant utility from here to test your hard drive.

You will need to create a bootable floppy or CD and change your boot order in the BIOS to boot first from the device you use.

Run a full test to see if it's the hard drive.
