4 Laptops 3 have same problem same day. Help.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Folks

This is making my head ache.

I have broadband and 4 laptops fed by a Belkin wireless Router.

Today 3 of them would not link to certain web sites but would perfectly well to others. All three of them will not download any e-mails (cannot find server message). All 3 run AVG. They are Toshiba, Dell, and an eeepc. 2 are XP, 1 Vista.

The 4th is totally fine, a Sony Vaio on XP but with Norton and different e-mail addresses. It is also on wireless.

To go for the obvious I uninstalled AVG completely off the Toshiba but it made no difference. I also added one of the non working e-mail acounts to the working Sony and it worked fine on it.

I am genuinely stumped. Logic points the finger at the AVG but the uninstall made no difference.

Any help really appreciated.

With thanks

Nick

Did you download and install any Windows Updates immediately prior to the problem arising with three of the computers?

Do the three problem computers connect reliably if you use a "wired" ethernet connection to the router, rather than "wirelessly"?

Thanks for the thought.

Virgin have just come clean that yesterday my 3 hours on the phone was not unique on this issue, so it turns out they now recognise it is a porblem with some IP addresses but sounded a bit phased by it.

The fact of some machines working and other not at all or sporadically is a common theme.

I'll let you all know.

Thanks
Nick
