httpS but NO PADLOCK : WHY? I have four computers in the house When I go to my bank account the following occurs: Three computers show the httpS at the top of the screen, and a closed padlock at the bottom of the screen One computer shows the httpS at the top of the screen, BUT NOT a closed padlock at the bottom of the screen QUESTIONS 1. Why no padlock? 2. How do get the padlock? 3. Is the computer with just the httpS at the top of the screen, (but no padlock at the bottom of the screen,)as secure as the other computers?

This solution may help:
On the computer that only shows 'https', remove all references to the bank from 'Sites' in the Trusted Zone, then reset both Trusted and Internet Zones to the default level.
This can be done by opening Tools -> Internet Options -> Security

Another comment I did not put in the bank in the safe zone. The padlock (on the other computers) justs comes, at the bottom of the screen, with any of the financial institutions.

Thank you to everyone who answered my question
The answer is that
1. The banks automatically come on the computer with httpS
2. Internet Explorer 6 shows the padlock at the BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN
3. Internet Explore 7 shows the padlock at the TOP OF THE SCREEN
along side the box where the web address (URL) appears
4. Internet Explorer 8 ?. Perhaps someone can tell us?

It is the same layout as IE 7.0 except the padlock(On a pale blue background) is clickable to show the security certificate type which validates the link
