slow broadband speeds
      #411298 - Wed Oct 29 2008 08:40 PM

Iam getting constantly pee'd off with how far behind the times we are with this broadband con, im starting to think if iam better off going back to dial up thats how bad and depressed i feel about mine, i live in plymouth, i use to live in a small just outside called ivybridge and i could get a speed of around 6.2mb on a daily basis, now i was use to that for about 18mths or so, now ive moved right back into plymouth, and now i live further away from the exchange within plymouth i can hardly get 1.0mb , which ive noticed a great difference, as ive got a PS3 and Xbox 360 which i try to play online and my partner has a laptop which the speed has got that bad we cannot be online at the same time, now iam with BT and have a bt hub, but ive done a small experiment i live 200 yards from a mcdonalds and used there phone number and postal code to see what broadband they could get , obviously business , they were getting 6.3mb, thats 200 yards away, so i tried a different address , same area just futher away, about half a mile , they were getting 4.6mb, now this angers me deeply to think that we the paying public , and bare in mind there are millions of monthly subscribers who pay there monthly fees, and yet we're still getting crappy speeds, i was watching sky on the other day and some place in korea or japen were getting speeds of 100mb, my question is why in this day and age or we lacking behind, myself and millions of customers surely are getting ripped off, is this broadband a total rip off, i bet dial up is now faster than my broadband see no bugger uses it, i might picket outside bt telecom house soon
whos with me, cant we get a online petition going?

I am with BT also and get only 150kbp/s it does seem that they want the money, but don't want to invest in fibre- optics until they have to and then it will only be to well populated areas. I struggle to listen to on-line radio while surfing as it constantly keeps buffering when web pages are loading I am paying them £25 a month for this speed and have been told that to change it to a lower price i will have to pay for the remainder of my 12 month contract (glad I didn't choose an 18 month contract)

I am also with BT, and also fed up with their slow speed.
I have been with BT for about 2 years now, prior to this I was with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange. My speed with F/W/O was never lightning fast, but it was constantly just under 2Mbps, and never really disconnected.
The only reason I switched to BT was the fact that when I looked into what estimated speed they were offering for the same price, they reckoned that I could get 4.5Mbps on an up to 8 Meg package....
I wish.....
I have never ever got anywhere near this speed..
When my contract has run it's term, I will be punting round for a new supplier..

I'm still with freedom 2 surf and the story is interesting. When I first went with them a few years back my BT line supported 5MB out of a possible 8 max. A couple of months ago I checked the line and it had dropped to 4MB. I checked today and it's now 2.3MB averaging out at 0.95 MBPS the quality of service here in the South East has been getting steadily worse with little hope of improvement. There is no cable services and worst still there appears to be no plan to provide a cable service or indeed to upgrade to a fiber optical service via BT which they a rolling out in the North West next year. I beginning to think they beleive Kent and Sussex are no longer part of the British Isles. may we have sunk into the north sea and are off the radar.
