Ask Google a question...
      #383014 - Tue Feb 05 2008 04:50 PM

If you could ask Google a question, what would it be?

Google is probably the biggest brand on the internet, having turned itself from a revolutionary search engine to a massive online business. It touches most of our lives on a daily basis, whether we're searching, sending email or watching video on YouTube.

So, if you could ask Google a question, what would it be? Whether it's of general interest or a technical query, we want to hear your questions. After all, you never know who might be listening...

Why don't Google searches have an in-built Site Advisor as a guide. Not everyone has or knows about McAfee's.

Why do Google allow rogue websites to be promoted in their ads.

Why are these rogue websites listed in their Search engine. Could they not report these sites to the correct authorities and get them removed from the web and help make the internet safer for surfers.

Why is it, that no matter what you search for, links for Ebay always come up. (Unless you have the FF extension that can block them of course).

Why,whenever you do a search, you get the same website listed more than once?

Why don`t you have thumbnails of each website in the list?

I would ask them if they are planning to disrupt the telecoms industry by offering free wireless Internet and free mobile Internet. If so, I'd ask them to present me with their plans for the next 2 years

My question would be "Is there any way that a web page could show you instantly whether you have looked at it before. As a Genealogist who trawls through a lot of web pages it would be great if an icon of some sort could appear at the top of the page to show you that you have been there before. This would save loads of time when it comes to repeating research by accident only to find that you already have the info."

Strange you say this susanpenter. Some time back I did a search in Google for a specific subject. Found what I was looking for but never bookmarked the website or remembered which it was. So I just kept using the words in search box, on a third visit there was a message at the top from Google, "Come on, you have been here before."

Never seen this on other searches, but, obviously it happens.

In yahoo search you can use quotes to enclose a phrase and thus find the results you require. Why cannot Google incorporate this?

According to the book I`ve just read,The Google Story, you can use quotes to make the search more accurate.

How about: why didn't you hire me?! Your application only took about three hours to fill out!

Okay nevermind. Don't answer that. Not sure I really want to hear the answer after all. You ARE Google, in the end. Who knows what kind of blackmail you have on me!

On that note, a better question:

Why not, on the home-page (and there's plenty of room) put some brief better googling notes like -

1. Use quotation marks ".." around key phrases
2. Use of + and - qualifiers

So many people criticise Google for producing far too many 'results' for a query that didn't make use of these helpful tools. Google isn't psychic after all. Except that Mrs.Radiogandy alleges that it is !

If Google could magically fix a web problem, it would be why can't YOUTUBE highlight the videos you have seen...Susan, any visited pages in google should show up in purple as opposed to blue...( Until you run CCleaner or other such software ) People put that many tags on their youtube stuff, that its very easy to start the same video again..... Soooo... Google, why doesn't YouTube Tell you the things you've already seen?
