All of a sudden when I start my computer this message pops up and I can't click anything else: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry..." Then it asks if I want to send an error report. Whether I send the report or not, the message pops up again almost immediately. There is an error signature after I click to see what data the error report contains:
AppName: explorer.exe Appver: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0. Offset: 00000000
What could be causing this?

The exact same thing has been happening to me, I've tried virus scanning in normal and safe mode, search through search engines to find a solution but still can't find one.
All I've found what works is going back a few says using System Restore, but a day or two later the errors appear again, and it starts to get very frustrating.
Help then anyone???

The same thing is happening to me as well, I have run Microsoft Spybot and this doesn't seem to have resolved anything, as well as running Norton Anti-virus and a scan on the computer. I have the exact same error report as well.
The error is popping up literally every 10-15 seconds once Windows starts up, the desktop refreshes and the error pops up again.
Could it be some kind of virus since it has only been happening in the last week or so?
Any help resolving this problem would be much appreciated

I'm new to this and have encountered the exact same problems as Taxman86 and others for the last few days.
Have spent countless hours trying everything to eradicate the problem. Tried loading SP2 from disk without success.
This must surely be a virus. My last resort is to do a complete system restore from my HP system... but would I be wasting my time?? Can't e.mail Microsoft as all their replies to error reports are computer generated. If this is a virus, what type of timescale would Norton be on to find a fix.
Hope there is a boffin out there with a solution ... pronto
