As you can see I am a new poster and relatively new to the computer game.
However let me bore you with my story.
From advice posted in previous editions of Web-User I tried PC Pitstop to check my PC. I was advised I needed more memory. Again from back issues I found out that Belarc Advisor would identify my motherboard (never heard of such a thing before) that would in turn help me identify what memory I required. Once more back to WU for advice and there I found Crucial. By entering my motherboard referance into the Crucial web site I was quickly notified of the correct memory upgrade I required (and very cheap). Ordered on Sunday over the web. Return E-Mail on Monday confirming my order and directing to an on-line installation guide. Item arrived today (Tuesday) via Special Delivery. 20 minutes later fully installed and working like a dream.
Now I know to you gurus this is may be an old story, but;
a) A British firm giving First Class service
b) No wait for parts
c) Full support
d) It works
For any newbies like me who have never up until today moved my PC, even to dust it let alone get a screwdriver to it, that are considering adding more memory then - GO FOR IT. It really is that easy.
P.S. I do not work for any of the above or have any association with them. I just believe in reward where it is deserved.
Well done. I've used Crucial a lot and they have never once let me down.
Now you've found out what's inside the box (lot's of space) you can start adding all those things you really need like a DVD writer and a new graphics card and some more USB ports and ..............
Crucial are fantastic, I recall praising them on here a while ago for their excellent service. Companies like this are so few and far between it definitely warrants another mention. Poppy`s Forum
You can actually get some quite small PC's now but perversely they seem to cost more than their bigger cousins! It's probably because the big ones are all standard size and the smaller ones have to be specially designed. I think your Christmas list should include (i) a bigger Hard Disk (80gig is good) (ii) a DVD/CDRW Combi drive and of course Broadband (unless you've already got that).
I wouldn't bother with a DV/CDRW drive anymore as you can now get DVD+/-RW drives for virtually the same price Of all the Things I've lost, I miss my mind the most
Just wantd to say that jumping my xp (0rginily MelliumEdition-UPGRADED) from 64 megs to 320 megs really did it some good! i have hardly ever had any crashes the computer loads in a flash and the hd isnt so busy cos i dont even need the pagefile!!!!!! PCadvice
