uploading
      #9961 - Wed Sep 10 2003 11:49 PM

this might sound like a silly question, i'm using frontpage express, i've designed a website, but i can't for the life of me get the thing to upload to my web address, when i go to my web page all it says is INDEX OF USER.NAME any help would save my rapidly thinning hair

Hi bricat.

Are you using Frontpage to upload or an FTP client? And (silly question) have you filled in the necessary Host Address, Username & Password details?

If NTL have given you FTP details they should include the address for uploading, which may or may not be the same as your web address. Different hosts use different methods, but as it's web space provided by your ISP as part of your package, I would expect the two address' to be different.

Give the upload.ntl address a whirl and I'll go take a look round BlazeFTP.

the address for uploading is ftp://upload.ntlworld.com, my web address is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/user.name. i type my web address in to the browser and i can find the page ok, it seems the problem is getting it from frontpage to my page. maybe it's just me but thatblaze ftp seems complicated and the instructions seem as if they were written for bill gates. lol

No worries Brian. Let's see if we can't crack this (if time isn't too pressing for you ).

Have you been able to get BlazeFTP to connect to your server (NTL)?

If not, take a look at your logon details in BlazeFTP, they should be something like this;

URL: upload.ntlworld.com
User: yourusername
Password: yourpassword
Port: 21
Annonymous: no
Passive: yes

Oh, and Have you allowed access to the internet through your firewall?

Let me know if we're connected ...

That's good Brian, we're getting there (lol)

Can you see 2 areas within BlazeFTP; one showing your NTL directory and the other your C: Drive folders?

If so, find the folder on your C: Drive that contains your web site (as created in Frontpage)?

Then double click on the folder with your web site in (this should be the top level of your site and you should be able to see the index.htm file along with the rest of your sites files. Select all these files (and any sub-folders) and drag & drop them ionto the area showing your NTL directory.

Let me know how you get on

BTW: I would have thought BlazeFTP has access as it is integral to Slimbrowser (which I beleive you're using) so no security worries there.

i just checked my traffic log and the upload was allowed. just dragged that file INDEX.HTM over to the window and dropped it and it WORKED, happy days now all i have to do is a bit of cosmetics. thanks for that TFC i was running out of hair, lol. no doubt i'll be hanging round these pages like a sewer rat in the future looking to learn something, and no doubt i will have plenty of questions. there is only one thing, when i type in my web address it doesn'y open on the page it opens index/user.name and you have to click on index.htm to open the page , any ideas.
