I am new to Broadband but have got a problem when shutting the computer down. I am using Windows ME, when I go to switch the computer off sometimes it goes off within seconds then other times the computer wont switch off at all.

Can anyone help me out on this one please?

Many thanks.

I had the same shutdown problems with my Zoom modem and had to upgrade the firmware.

The firmware upgrade basically meant the modem used its own independent communication software and not the computers.

Does this question and answer from the speedtouch website sound familiar?

Q8: Dial-Up networking starts up when I try to access the Internet, even though I'm using PPPoE and already have a connection established.

A: This happens under Windows ME. To correct this, open Dial-Up Networking ( Start -> settings -> Dial-Up Networking ), then right click on the icon of your default connection ( the one that pops up automatically ) and select Properties from the pop up menu. Select the Dialling tab. Click on "Dial whenever a connection is not present". You may have to click on "This is my default connection" to be able to change this value. Click on OK. You may have to repeat this procedure for all the icons ( except the "make a new connection" icon ) present in the Dial-Up Networking window.

Try the above or you could try installing the latest drivers from here:

http://www.speedtouch.com/support.htm

If you do try the drivers and they still don't try emailing Speedtouch for support.

Hope some of this waffle helps
