which laptop???

am going to get a new laptop in Ireland in the next few weeks - looking for advice as to which.
have been using a Dell Inspiron 8000 for past three years
performance wise I dont need much, my main priority is portability, then also need a CD-RW. looking to spend about £1000-1200. am not a gamer or huge surfer.
what is good at the moment?
