...system tray - but keep it installed on my system?
I've looked through all the options in Control Panel (which Quicktime "conveniently" adds itself to too) but can't seem to see an option to remove it.
ANy help?

Go to Start, Run then type in mscongig then OK. On the dialogue box which opens click on Start tab at top. You will then see all the programs that start when you boot up your PC. Scroll to the one relating to Quick Time and uncheck the box. Click Apply, OK. You might be asked to restart your PC for the change to take effect or wait until next time you start up. Quick Time icon should have disappeared from System Tray but you cab load it by going to programs or if you have a shortcut on your desktop. This applies to any other programs that appear in your system tray but which you only use infrequently. Keeping them there only wastes system resources.
