I have an idea for a website project and it's probably quite ambitious for an absolute novice so im looking for any help as to where to start ....
http://www.splfever.co.uk is the nearest I can find to what I want to do!!!.
Basicaly I want to have a website for the Scottish Premier League that will consist of
1 Main Page which will link to my other pages (woohoo)
My other pages will be 12 club sites 1 site for every SPL club team. The idea is that every club site although I will retain the rights will be run by a fan or fans of that club giving them acess through a passowrd controled control pannel to write match reports add latest news player profiles etc etc (not sure how this works as I dont want my users to have to know a great deal about webdesign and HTML)
The last section of course will be a Messagebaord that every club will share with their own Club section although they will be able to access the full board.
So realy is this possible? and who would i best host with that would allow me to do all the above.
Would I need to buy loads of domain names? such as
Hi Grant, I had the same problem a while ago but have sorted it. What you do is make a folder with the name rangers and then in that folder make an index page like your main web site then build your web site for rangers in that folder. Do the same for hearts hibs etc remember any linking will have to be http://www.splfever.co.uk/rangers/thelink.html etc or http://www.splfever.co.uk/hibs/thelink.html (where it says link you place contents, home etc) you upload the folders the same as uploading the single pages so your main page will be http://www.splfever.co.uk but then with the rangers folder you can have the url http://www.splfever.co.uk/rangers Take a look at my web site at www.anxious-times.co.uk that will give you an example.
Hope this helps Take Care Michael

If you select your web host with care this is not so daunting. As said, create sub folders below the main site for each team, then for updating access by the fans, a good host will have the tools for protected shared access. You may for instance wish to talk to www.34sp.com about the possibilities. They use the Plesk web desktop which allows you to assign site admin access to designated users within specified protected areas of the site, while you retain overall admin control as the domain holder.

Thank you guys for your help it looks like i may havef found a couple of hosts who will be able to meet my requiremnets. It looks like Im going to go down the PHP portal route and theese guys would pre-install the 12 i need for my club sites
Good Luck with the site grant, and keep us posted with your progress (I'm sure you'd have plenty of volunteers if you need to beta test your site prior to going live). TFC Nothing is a problem for me...
